Bible
prophecies have correctly predicted events in secular history.
It is
amazing that the Bible has predicted some of the important events in the history
of the world.
Secular history.
Secular history of the world involves kings and their conquests. Recorded history started from the Sumerians in the Euphrates river basin (Mesopotamia) in the present day Iraq. The records are in the form of cuneiform engravings in tablets of clay. Subsequently, historical records were in the form of writing on animal skins or parchment paper, statues, bas-relief pictures, mosaic, coins, paintings etc.
Babylonian
Empire.
605-539 BC.
There exists a tablet of stone describing King Nebuchadnezzar capturing
Jerusalem and bringing the inhabitants (Jews) to Babylon for exile.
This nation corresponds to the head made of
fine gold of the statue in the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar interpreted by
Daniel (Dan
2:32)
This empire is known for its majesty and grandeur
as depicted in its hanging gardens and Hammurabi Code of law. It
is also likened to a lion in its majesty.
(Dan 7:4)
Persian Empire. 539-356 BC.
There exists a Cylinder of Cyrus describing the destruction of Babylon by
King Cyrus of Persia in 539 BC.
This empire started off as an alliance of the Medes with the Persians.
The Persians eventually gained ascendancy. The empire
is likened to a ram with two horns, the Medes and Persians. (Dan 8:3)
This nation corresponds to the chest and arms made of silver in the dream of
King Nebuchadnezzar interpreted by Daniel. (Dan 2:32) The army of this empire is likened to a bear, being big and ungainly.
(Dan 7:5)
Greek Empire. 356-146 BC.
Alexander the great 356-323
BC. conquered the vastly bigger Persian armies in three decisive battles,
Granicus in 334 BC, Issus in 333BC and Gaugamela in 331 BC. He is acknowledged
to be the father of modern maneuver warfare. After a campaign which lasted 12
years, he was master of a vast area which stretched from Greece to the Punjab in
India. He died probably of Malaria at 33 years of age in Babylon..
This nation corresponds to the belly and thighs
made of brass in the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar interpreted by Daniel
(Dan 2:32). The army of this empire is likened to a
leopard, swift and maneuverable (Dan 7:6). This
empire is also likened to a ferocious goat with one horn. The single horn is
Alexander the Great. The horn was broken soon after the goat vanquished the ram
with fury (Dan 8:5). After the death of Alexander, his kingdom was
divided into four kingdoms corresponding to the four horns of the goat which
arose after the single horn was broken (Dan 8:8, 21-22): Cassander in Greece,
Lysmachus in Thrace, Seluceus I Nicator in Mesopotamia and Iran, and Ptolomy I
in the Levant and Egypt. These later consolidated into two kingdoms, the
Ptolomies and the Seleucids
One of the subsequent kings, Antiochus Epiphanes
(Epiphanes'
name means God made manifest.) sacrificed swine
in the temple at Jerusalem and declared himself as god (168 BC.) (Dan 8:9-11)
Roman Empire. 146 BC- 313 AD.
This empire is corresponds to the legs of iron
in the dream of Nebuchadnezer interpreted by Daniel (Dan 2:33). The army of this
empire is likened to a cruel beast that shows no mercy. (Dan 7:7)
Flavius Josephus records the Jewish revolt and the subsequent six-month
siege of Jerusalem by general Titus, son of Caesar Vespasian. He records the
desperate starvation in Jerusalem where mothers cannibalized
their children. (Deut 28:53,57) (Matt 24:19)
The Romans massacred about one million Jews.
The gold covered temple was burnt down
during the capture and the gold was plundered by the soldiers who took down
every stone in order to retrieve the melted gold fragments (Matt 24:2).
The remaining survivors were in such poor condition that when they were
shipped to Alexandria, Egypt for sale as slaves,
no one would buy them. (Deut 28:68)
A special coin was minted to commemorate the capture of Jerusalem. This
depicted the Emperor Vespasian looking down on a Jewish slave woman in the
presence of an olive tree depicting the state of Israel.
The Arch of Titus was erected in Rome to commemorate the victorious
Romans. It is still standing today.
The history of Israel.
What happened to Jerusalem
after it’s sacking in AD 70?
Jerusalem was under various powers
from 70 to 1948 AD.
Rome.
70
to 313 AD.
Byzantine.
313 to 636 AD.
Arabs.
636 to 1099 AD.
Latin (Roman Catholic Pope).
1099 to 1291 AD.
Mameluke.
1291 to 1516 AD.
Ottoman.
1516 to 1917 AD.
British.
1918 to 1948 AD.
In 1945 two
shocking events occurred. One was the detonation of nuclear weapons in Japan and
the other was the discovery of the death camps of Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec,
Sobibor, Majdanek and Buchenwald. The
Holocaust saw the systematic extermination (genocide) of about 6 million Jews by
Nazi Germany.
Moved to
remorse, the leaders of the nations of the world supported the creation of the
state of Israel in Palestine. In 1948, the independent Republic of Israel was
formed with the recognition of the United Nations.
Many Jews
came back from 70 countries to settle in the land. Almost immediately, the Jews
faced war from their Arab neighbors. A rag-tag civilian army of about 20,000 men
battled the combined military might of Egypt, Jordan and Syria and emerged
victorious after six months of bitter fighting.
The Sinai war
of 1954 saw the Arab invaders losing the Sinai Peninsula to Israel.
In the
six-day war of 1967, the Arab Invaders lost Jerusalem and the west bank of the
Jordan River to Israel.
In the Yom
Kippur war of 1973, the invader Syria lost the Golan Heights to Israel.
The land
became populated, with many Jews returning from the countries of the Diaspora.
It had about 3 million inhabitants before the Romans sacked it in AD 70. The
population dwindled to about 5,000 in the 1300s. It rose to about 1 million in
1954 and about 5 million in 2004. The towns became cities (Ezek 37:1-28).
Since 1948,
the land became fertile and productive. Its fruits became widely available
worldwide.
Israel since
independence in 1948 has been a focus of trouble in the Middle East and for the
rest of the world. From being a victim, the Jews with the victories in the four
wars and the subjugation of the Palestinian people, they have taken on the role
of the big bully. Sympathy for them is now on the decline. The Palestinians are
now spawning terrorist activities in order to achieve the political aim of
creating an independent Palestinian nation. Groups with political ambitions in
other Arab states have jumped on the fashionable wagon of Islamic fundamentalism
to perpetrate systematic terrorism.
The European
nations have decided to co-operate and formed European Common Market. They have
further unified by forming the European Union and using a common currency. With
the United States’ invasion of Iraq, the European nations are distancing
themselves from the United States. However they are still connected by The North
Atlantic Treaty Organization. This is being expanded to include some of the
states of the former Soviet Bloc.
The United States, which is mainly ethnically derived form the European
peoples can be considered as an offshoot of the European nations. However, the
Jews in the United States have a disproportionately large political influence.
They comprise the captains of industry, professions and media. It is no wonder
that the United States is subsidizing Israel to the tune of about a billion
dollars a year in assistance of various kinds.
There have
been numerous attempts to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict. The European
nations and the United States have tried to broker peace deals without success
so far. The election of Hamas by the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza has
further complicated the situation. The failed war against Hezbollah in Lebanon
has added to insecurity in Israel.
Recent
History
Knowledge has increased
exponentially within the last century (Dan 12:4).
With the development of nuclear technology,
the means is now available to result in mutual assured destruction. The
experience at Hiroshima and Nagasaki showed that humans can
become vaporized in the intense heat of a nuclear explosion.
With the rise of the United States of America and the Soviet Union, the
world moved into the cold war era. The protagonists threatened mutual assured
destruction (MAD) on each other. They continued their war
by proxy in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East (Matt 24:6-7, Luke 21:10).
Natural disasters are on the rise (Luke 21:11). It is estimated that
there were only 3 to 6 major earthquakes per
century until the 20th century. For the past 100 years, there have
been more than 35 major earthquakes, with most of them occurring after 1950. In
2004, there was a major undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra producing a
tsunami which claimed thousands of lives. The
countries bordering the Indian Ocean are not known to experience tsunamis. It is
postulated that the regular underground nuclear testing since the 1940’s may
partly contribute to the earthquakes.
Freak weather like drought, tornadoes and floods
are occurring more frequently. An example is flooding from Hurricane
Katrina.
The population
of the world is rapidly increasing. Forests are being cleared. Natural
resources are being depleted. Pollution is also on the increase. These may be
contributing to global warming.
The social
fabric of the world is being changed. Permissive lifestyles like homosexuality
and fornication are becoming more acceptable. The family unit is being
threatened.
Coincidental
with this is the outbreak and rapid spread of Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus
(AIDS virus). Large swathes of populations all over the world, especially in
Africa are being affected. Other new viruses are emerging. These include those
responsible for the Mad Cow Disease, Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
(SARS) and Bird Flu and Ebola. These can be called pestilences
(Matt 24:7, Luke 21:11).
The world resources are also unequally controlled. It is
estimated that 90% of the world’s resources are under the control of 10% of
the world’s population. This means that there is opulence in the midst of
poverty. Famine is widespread in Africa (Matt
24:7, Luke 21:11).
We are now in
an age where some activities are not even imaginable only 200 years ago. Vast
amounts of information can be stored in tiny computer chips. Computer chips have
been implanted in human beings for purposes of identification.
With the help
of television and satellite telecommunications, the whole world can see what is
happening real-time at any one location. People can move
to and fro over vast distances in short periods of time with air travel
(Dan 12:4).
With multi-national corporations and modern telecommunications and transport,
the world economy is becoming increasingly globalised.
The framework for economic globalization is assisted by institutions like the
United Nations and its affiliated bodies like the World Bank and the
International Monetary Fund. The U.N. also provides the political framework to
punish errant nations as happened to Iraq in the first Gulf War in 1991.
However it is powerless against powerful nations like the United
States when it invaded Iraq without approval of the Security Council of the
United Nations.
The second
half of the 20th century has seen the emergence of ecumenism,
not only among the various Christian Church denominations but also among various
religions. The momentum is from religious intolerance to religious tolerance and
towards religious acceptance. The differences of doctrine are increasingly being
watered down even to the extent that evangelism would no longer be relevant. The
motto is the common fatherhood of God and the common brotherhood of man
irrespective of religion. I believe that terrorism in the name of religion may
stimulate a reaction of increased motivation towards ecumenism. This would
culminate in the widespread acceptance of a common world religion. The secret
society of Freemasons is already practicing this. Membership is only by
invitation. Interestingly, a disproportionate number of the members happen to be
world financial and political heavyweights.
Prediction
of events which have yet to occur.
The
major events in history mentioned above have been accurately predicted in the
Bible. Some were predicted as far back as 1,300 BC.
What does the
Bible say of the future? With the presence of increase in natural disasters,
wars, famine and epidemics of new diseases, I believe the stage is now set for
further predicted events to unfold (Matt 24:6-7, Luke 21:10-11).
The foretold
events include the rebuilding of the Temple (Ezek 37:27), the emergence of a
political personality labeled the Beast (Dan 7:24-25, Matt 24:24, Rev 13:1-2),
who would insist that his mark be placed on people (Rev
13:11-18), the emergence of another personality called the False Prophet (Rev
16:13, Matt 24:23-24) who would edify the Beast and the emergence of two
witnesses (Rev 11:3-6) who would prophesy against the Beast and the False
Prophet.
The people of
the whole world would be able to see the death and resurrection of these two
prophets in Israel (Rev 11:7-12). When it was predicted in 30 AD, it would be
inconceivable for an event in Jerusalem to be instantly seen by people all over
the world. However now with modern technology like satellite telecommunication,
this capability is now a reality.
The Beast
would lead armies against Israel (Rev 19:17-21). Jesus would come to the rescue
of Israel. The final
conflict (Rev: 20:1-10) and the curtain falls.

of Moses. 1300 BC. )
Deut
28:14-68 (This contains
predictions about the exile to Babylon in 597BC, the siege of Jerusalem
by the Romans in AD 70, and the diaspora of AD 70 to 1946
14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this
day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken
unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and
his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses
shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: (history
of Israel)
16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the
increase of thy kind, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou
goest out.
20 The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou
settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou
perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast
forsaken me.
21 The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed
thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22 The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an
inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with
blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is
under thee shall be iron.
24 The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall
it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25 The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine
enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before
them: and shalt be removed into all
the kingdoms of the earth. (The diaspora
of AD 70 to 1948)
26 And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and
unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
27 The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and
with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.
28 The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of
heart:
29 And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou
shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled
evermore, and no man shall save thee.
30 Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt
build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard,
and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
31 Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof:
thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be
restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt
have none to rescue them.
32 Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto
another people, (Babylon)
and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and
there shall be no might in thine hand.
33 The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a
nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and
crushed alway:
34 So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt
see.
35 The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch
that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
36 The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou
shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have
known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.(Babylon)
37 And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among
all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.
38 Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little
in; for the locust shall consume it.
39 Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the
wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them.
40 Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not
anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit.
41 Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they
shall go into captivity.
42 All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume.
43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou
shalt come down very low.
44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head,
and thou shalt be the tail.
45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and
overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the
voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he
commanded thee:
46 And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed
for ever.
47 Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness
of heart, for the abundance of all things;
48 Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against
thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and
he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far,
from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue
thou shalt not understand;
50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of
the old, nor shew favour to the young: (The
Roman Empire)
51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy
land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn,
wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have
destroyed thee.
52 And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls
come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he
shall besiege
thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God
hath given thee.
53 And thou shalt eat
the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters,
which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
54 So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be
evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the
remnant of his children which he shall leave:
55 So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh
of his children whom he shall eat:
because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith
thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
56 The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the
sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall
be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her
daughter,
57 And toward her young one that cometh out from between
her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat
them for want of all things secretly in
the siege and straitness, wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy
gates.
58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in
this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY
GOD;
59 Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed,
even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long
continuance.
60 Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast
afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of
this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
62 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven
for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
63 And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good,
and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to
bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou
goest to possess it.
64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people,
from the one end of the earth even unto the other; (The
diaspora) and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor
thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of
thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and
failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and
thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even
thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith
thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt
again with ships, by the way whereof I
spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and
there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
Deut 30:1-20 (This contains predictions
about the gathering of Hebrews from many nations and the restoration of the
nation state of Israel in 1948)
30:1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the
blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them
to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to
all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul;
3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity,
and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather
thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered
thee.
4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from
thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land
which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it;
(The re-establishment of the nation of Israel in 1948.)
and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed,
to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou
mayest live.
7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them
that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his
commandments which I command thee this day.
9 And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in
the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy
land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he
rejoiced over thy fathers:
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his
commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if
thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from
thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to
heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the
sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that
thou mayest do it.
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his
ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou
mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land
whither thou goest to possess it.
17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn
away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall
not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to
possess it.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I
have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore
choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice,
and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy
days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Ezek
37:1-28 (This contains predictions about the
gathering of the Hebrews from many nations and the restoration of the nation
state of Israel in 1948)
37:1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the
spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the
valley which was full of bones,
2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many
in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live?
And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry
bones, hear the word of the LORD.
5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter
into you, and ye shall live:
6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover
you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that
I am the LORD.
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise,
and behold a shaking,
and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came
up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in
them.
9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to
the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath
came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an
exceeding great army.
11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the
whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our
hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.
12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my
people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come
up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my
people, and brought you up out of your graves,
14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live,
and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have
spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
15 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah,
and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and
write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel
his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one
stick;(unified nation of Israel)
and they shall become one in thine hand.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou
not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of
Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows,
and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one
stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I
will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone,
and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: (restoration
of the Nation of Israel in 1948)
22 And I will make them one nation
in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them
all: and they shall be no more two nations,
neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
23 Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with
their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save
them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse
them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one
shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do
them.
25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant,
wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and
their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David
shall be their prince for ever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an
everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and
will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I
will be their God, and they shall be my people.
28 And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my
sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.
Ezek
38:1-23 (This contains predictions about the
events in Israel during the end- times in future.)
38:1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the
land of Magog,
the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold I am against thee, O Gog, the chief
prince of Meshech and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee
forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all
sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them
handling swords:
5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of
them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah
of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are
assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come
into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many
people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is
brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover
the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time
shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go
to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls,
and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate
places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the
nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the
land.
13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions
thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered
thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle
and goods, to take a great spoil?
14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely,
shalt thou not know it?
15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north
parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a
great company, and a mighty army:
16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the
land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will
bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be
sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
17 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my
servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that
I would bring thee against them?
18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the
land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that
day there shall be a great shaking in the land of
Israel;
20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the
beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all
the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the
mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall
shall fall to the ground.
21 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith
the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be against his brother.
22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with
blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many
people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great
hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known
in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I
am the LORD.
Ezekiel 39:1-29 (This contains predictions
about the events in Israel during the end-times in future.)
39:1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the
Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the
chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth
part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and
will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to
fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the
people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every
sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them
that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will
not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the
heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day
whereof I have spoken.
9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on
fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the
arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire
seven years:
10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of
the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil
those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will
give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the
passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the
passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall
call it The valley of Hamon-gog.
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be
burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.
13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a
renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the
land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth,
to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone,
then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley
of Hamon-gog.
16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the
land.
17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered
fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather
yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a
great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink
blood.
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of
the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of
Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of
my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty
men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my
judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD
their God from that day and forward.
23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for
their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from
them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the
sword.
24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I
done unto them, and hid my face from them.
25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of
Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my
holy name;
26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they
have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made
them afraid.
27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of
their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
28 Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which cause them to be led
into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land,
and have left none of them any more there.
29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my
spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
(Prophecy of Jeremiah.
589 B.C.)
Jer 25:1-14 (This
contains predictions about the
carrying away of people of Judah by King Nebuchadnezzar in 587 BC,)
25:1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the
fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first
year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon;
2 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all
the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto
this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come
unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not
hearkened.
4 And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the
prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined
your ear to hear.
5 They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the
evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and
to your fathers for ever and ever:
6 And go not after other gods to serve them, and to
worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I
will do you no hurt.
7 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might
provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.
8 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,
9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the
north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadnezzar
the king of Babylon,
my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants
thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy
them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.
10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness,
the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the
millstones, and the light of the candle.
11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these
nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are
accomplished, that I will punish the king of
Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for
their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual
desolations.
13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against
it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied
against all the nations.
14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I
will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of
their own hands.
(Prophecy of Daniel. 587 to 562 BC.)
Dan
2:1-49 (This contains predictions about
what shall be in the latter days. Following the Babylonian empire will be
the Medo-Persian Empire. This would be followed by the Greek Empire and the Roman
Empire. What happens during the end-times in
future is also described.)
2:1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar
dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the
sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and
stood before the king.
3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was
troubled to know the dream.
4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell
thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye
will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall
be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation
thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour:
therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we
will shew the interpretation of it.
8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time,
because ye see the thing is gone from me.
9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for
you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the
time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew
me the interpretation thereof.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the
earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor
ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there
is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling
is not with flesh.
12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy
all the wise men of Babylon.
13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought
Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the
king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
15 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty
from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and
that he would shew the king the interpretation.
17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
18 That they would desire mercies of the God of
heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not
perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night
vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for
ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up
kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know
understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he
knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me
wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for
thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy
the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise
men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the
interpretation.
25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king
in haste and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah,
that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was
Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have
seen, and the interpretation thereof?
27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the
king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the
soothsayers, shew unto the king;
28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets,
and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what
shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy
head upon thy bed, are these;
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into
